After three decades as the colorful bandleader of The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, legendary trumpet player and entertainer, Doc Severinsen, is still kicking. With his flashy outfits, charismatic stage presence, and exemplary musicianship, Severinsen became a household name and perfect counterpart to Johnny. The beloved musician seems to defy nature, continuously touring, teaching, and conducting, well into his nineties. With a strenuous workout regimen and packed schedule, it’s clear that Severinsen lives for the trumpet. This heartwarming documentary highlights Severinsen’s iconic and groundbreaking career while revealing the personal trials marking a life of inspiration and obsession. Discussion with directors Kevin Bright and Jeff Consiglio, editor Brad Allgood, and subject Doc Severinsen, moderated by Harry Chotiner (NYU) to follow.
