Winner of the Borsos Award for Best Cinematography in a Feature Film and invited to participate in the Un Certain Regard section of this year’s Cannes Film Festival, Monia Chokri’s exploration of star-crossed lovers is a sizzler.

Sophie is a woman of a certain age who comes from an intellectual, highly educated Montreal family. She works as a philosophy professor and has a comfortable relationship with her bookish partner, Xavier.  However, Sophie tosses all caution to the wind when she meets Sylvain, a blue-collar contractor she hires to refurbish her lakeside cottage. Estimating that this may be her one last chance to experience true passion, she dive-bombs into the affair, seemingly oblivious to potential consequences. It’s a case of opposites attract, but can it last?

This is Ms. Chokri’s third major outing as a director, following A BROTHER’S LOVE, which won an award at Cannes in 2019 and BABYSITTER, which won Best Feature at The Canadian Film Festival earlier this year. The Nature of Love was shot by acclaimed DP, André Turpin.
