This interactive session brings participants through the sequence of steps used to lace words and phrases with potent intentions to evoke personal or collective change. Using case studies in Sufi mysticism and Sanskrit, participants will learn examples of protective spells and liberative incantations and, alternatively, identify find how words and phrases can be colonially hacked for the purpose of oppression.
This workshop is led with a decolonial lens and will also explore the power of the subconscious, challenging participants to consider how neo-colonialism and white supremacy weave into our everyday language in similar ways and how we can use awareness and acknowledgement to avoid further perpetuating oppression through our magical realities.
