Like father, like son. Inspired by special moments from the film Seasons, Son’s Gonna Rise is a piece celebrating the special relationship between fathers and sons everywhere. The short film highlights the especially unique relationship between CLIF Athlete Andrew Shandro and his son, Ethan Shandro that revolves around many things, most notably, their shared love for mountain biking as well as the challenges and successes you experience as a professional athlete.

Armed with an endless supply of fruit snacks, plenty of extra underwear and a pile of old photographs, two parents set out to retrace the route of an old adventure, this time with a two-year-old in tow, hoping to inspire the next generation to care about wild places.

“Finn has every reason to hate the body he’s been given, but instead he’s one of the most joyful people I’ve ever met,” say Ethan Sheets of his eldest son Finn. Born without half his brain, Finn lives with cerebral palsy and will never walk or talk without assistance. After his diagnosis, Ethan and his wife Kasey let go of the future they had envisioned for Finn, but in its place a new reality, both difficult and beautiful, emerged as they parents witnessed a change in Finn when they took him hiking. Even as they grapple with what the future holds, the Sheets family finds their form of happiness in their backyard, realizing that hard roads can be happy.

Entering his thirties, Juan Andrés realizes the great impact his dad, Juan Miguel, has had on his path to leading the adventurous life. In order to rekindle his father’s dormant passions, he decides to invite his father on a new adventure, together, high up in Peru’s Cordillera Blanca. This father and son pair team up for a summit attempt in some of the highest mountains in South America and attempt to overcome the challenges of the past on their way up.
