ABOUT THE FILMMAKER:Ilie Mitaru is an Emmy-nominated filmmaker and photojournalist whose work centers on regular people in extraordinary circumstances. Ilie’s films and photography have been featured in The New York Times, National Geographic, and The Guardian, among others. A first generation Romanian-American whose parents received political asylum during the Cold War, Ilie is drawn to stories that push against easy assumptions of otherness for a more complex understanding of the individuals and communities in his work.

ABOUT THE FILMMAKER:Laura has written and directed three features: the Independent Spirit Award-winner Breakfast with Curtis, Stay Until Tomorrow, and Tax Day. Her shorts include Statuary, The Flying Electric, and Chryskylodon Blues, filmed behind-the-scenes on the set of Paul Thomas Anderson's Inherent Vice. Her films have screened at well over 100 festivals internationally, winning over 25 awards. Breakfast with Curtis was named one of the top ten films of the last decade by Barabara Scharres on RogerEbert.com. She has been a Sundance Directing Fellow, a Film Independent Fellow, a Bogliasco Fellow, and one of Filmmaker Magazine’s 25 New Faces in Independent Film.

ABOUT THE FILM:To dance is to remember, to dance is to remind. As the Palestinian identity continues to be threatened with erasure, Palestinians turn to their folk dance, the dabke, as an homage to their history and culture, and to assert their existence. Dancing Palestine is a documentation of this embodiment of collective memory, as those who piece together a dabke choreography, piece together their identities, too. Together with the film – a performance in itself – the dabke is a testament to Palestinians’ deep love of life, and thus their need to contribute to the archive of Palestine, so that it continues to live on in the present. ABOUT THE FILMMAKER:Lamees Almakkawy obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Film and New Media from New York University Abu Dhabi, and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Documentary by Practice from University College London. Her interests lie in the intersection of documentary and fiction filmmaking, with a particular focus on identity, performance, collective and individual memory, and coming-of-age stories. She uses film as an outlet to understand what is normally unspoken – exploring the medium’s potential to unpack questions within and outside of herself. She is currently working as a digital media producer in London.

The now infamous &amp; iconic trout image is found in every convenience store nationwide. The story of this one label twists and turns over the span of 40 years. The legends behind this label and many others have been buried in folklore but the vision created at Bell’s started a revolution in the craft brewing industry that changed what a beer label could be – a piece of art. This is the unconventional story of artist Ladislav Hanka whose love of fishing, Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and beer found its way into every store in America. ABOUT THE FILMMAKER:For the past 19 years, Rory McHarg has been telling stories for the world’s largest brands. He joined Detroit-based film company Woodward Original from VICE Media, where he created global music and social impact programs for Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff, YouTube, Budweiser, &amp; Bacardi. He believes deeply in the concept of the brand as a publisher. Bret Miller is a director/writer/producer of narrative films. He’s directed two feature films along with a host of short and commercial content for clients and agencies across the globe. He’s passionate about juxtaposing cinematic form with current culture to tell rich, relatable stories.
