Synopsis: Unfolding over the span of 36 hours in three separate wars – The American Civil War, World War I, and Iraq – FOXHOLE follows five soldiers confined in a foxhole as they grapple with morality, futility, and an increasingly volatile combat situation. Casting the same five actors in each episode, the film depicts the shifting roles of race and gender over time against the backdrop of the seemingly endless human struggle for power and domination. Using creative camera work to capture the feeling of the time, we witness the pain, the trauma, the stress, and the comradery as the roles change with each war… yet the story remains the same. As our nation undergoes a current crisis of meaning and purpose, FOXHOLE is a compelling example of how turmoil can bring out the humanity in us all. Written, directed, edited, and scored by Jack Fessenden, it is an aspirational work of singular vision.
