Memory & Identity

Through revisiting old photographs, videos and letters, these filmmakers have rekindled suppressed memories to invite an exploration of their identity, ancestry and relationship with the past.

Cof a Hunaniaeth

Trwy gyfeirio at hen ffotograffau, fideos a llythyrau, mae'r gwneuthurwyr ffilm hyn wedi aildanio atgofion cuddiedig i ennyn archwiliad o'u hunaniaeth, eu hachau a'u perthynas â'r gorffennol.

Nicolas, the grandson of colonists in the Belgian Congo, wants to know what life was like for his grandparents - behind the photos, letters, and films. The erasure of the Black community in his family's archive fits with their legacy of colonial life. A life dictated by silence, denial and looking the other way. Through stunning animation, Nicolas exposes what the photos and letters leave out, revealing the truth about a buried past his family had attempted to erase.

Mae Nicolas, ŵyr gwladychwyr yn y Congo Gwlad Belg, eisiau gwybod sut beth oedd bywyd i'w fam-gu a’u dad-cu - y tu ôl i'r ffotograffau, llythyrau a ffilmiau. Mae dileu'r gymuned Ddu yn ei archif deuluol yn cyd-fynd â'u hetifeddiaeth o fywyd yn y trefedigaethau. Bywyd sy'n cael ei bennu gan dawelwch, gwadu ac edrych y ffordd arall. Trwy animeiddio gwych, mae Nicolas yn datgelu'r hyn y mae'r ffotograffau a'r llythyrau yn ei hepgor, gan amlygu'r gwir am orffennol cudd yr oedd ei deulu wedi ceisio'i ddileu.
