This beautiful, gently contemplative documentary follows the natural rhythms of a year in the life of a Hmong family. For the Hmong, a major minority ethnic group in Southeast Asia, rice is life. In the northern highlands of Vietnam, the landscape is defined by cascading terraces of golden paddy fields essential to the lives of the villagers. We follow two septuagenarian grandparents as they shoulder the responsibility of raising their delightful grandson, Ker. Their days spent bent double in the fields, bickering drunkenly, through the communal harvest and killing the New Year pig. Gorgeous cinematography and exquisite sound design will immerse you in a completely different world.
