Her folding chair on the sidewalk, coffee cup in hand, surrounded by vibrant paintings, Maria Torres is a regular fixture in her uptown Manhattan neighborhood. But behind her engaging artwork are unexpected layers of trauma, survival, and healing. Maria’s unique story, told with simple honesty, brings a deeper meaning to the colorful images she creates, allowing us to see them in a whole new way.

PAT PASSLOF was a painter in an artworld dominated by men in one of the most important periods in American art, Abstract Expressionism.

Pat Passlof... unexpected conversation

Pat Passlof, a First Generation Abstract Expressionist Painter made her way in a New York Artworld dominated by men, to become a highly acclaimed and accomplished painter.

For over fifty years, Mr. Moosa Haim (Jalil) Harooni has been transforming mere seashells into heartfelt characters from the Old Testament, Persian Mythology and legendary kings and poets such as Cyrus the Great, Reza Shah, Ferdowsi, Hafez and Omar Khayyam. His dioramas also tell the plebeian stories of a shoemaker, a flower girl, a defeated matador, dancers, musicians, lovers and animals. The latest works of Mr. Harooni include Abe Lincoln freeing a slave, and George Washington. Mr. Harooni’s art is a reflection of his life journey as an Iranian Jew who grew up during WWII, lived through the Islamic Revolution in Iran and migrated to the United States after the Iran Iraq War.
