A middle schooler decides to write a pun about being queer on a scrap of paper. Later, when their mom discovers the paper, they have to deal with this unexpected situation. This animated story, the first major project by a student at South High School, Minneapolis, is based on actual events.

Not as Straight as This Line

Belle River is a rural Cajun community in Louisiana. Most of the people speak Cajun French most of the time, and most of the houses are at least partially under water most of the time. The people love their community and want to stay, but their area is also subject to additional man-made flooding if a release of Mississippi River water is necessary to protect larger cities

In Quebec, we learn from this film, logging companies are required to plant three trees for every one they cut down. Thus, entire societies are created each summer among the legions of young people who are recruited for this hard, hot, buggy work. Julie Lambert tells the story of these micro-societies that are formed in the woods from the standpoint of the women--- planters, forepersons, techs, cooks-- who have chosen to work there.

In honor of and in memory of their father, a legendary Slovak river runner, two brothers and a group of friends raft the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. In their month-long journey through the canyon, they immerse themselves in the untamed beauty of nature, and not infrequently in the river itself. This film features amazing cinematography, providing a real feel for what it's like to go through Class 8 and 9 rapids, as well as a feel for the river's quiet side-canyons. One of our reviewers wrote of the camera work, "How did they do this?!!!"
