It’s nap time. A rural girl, just eight years old, is the only companion of her mother, who’s about to give birth. Together they must walk to the hospital, but the growing pain of the mother´s contractions force them to stop. The girl must walk, alone, twelve kilometers to the nearest town, in search of help.

Director’s Statement: María Soledad Laici

12 Kilometers gives voice to those anonymous women who manage to overcome the adversity that comes their way, in full communion with the nature they inhabit. I am convinced that the short film challenges us and makes visible the power of the ties between women and their unavoidable will.

The film is based on real events. It was born from my connection with a peasant woman from Argentine Patagonia. These kinds of minimal stories work as inspiration in moments of crisis like the one we are going through. They lead us to reflect on the power of humanity in the face of adversity.
