Sculptor Dana King’s hands and activist Fredrika Newton’s memories come together to build a new monument that honors the Black Panther Party's vital place in American history.

From the project’s conception through its community unveiling, these two women take us on a journey to reclaim erased histories—personal and collective—and to rededicate them to the future.

Director A.K. Sandhu

Director's Statement:

It has always frustrated me that stories about social movements rarely highlight the contributions of womxn. This is certainly true for past stories about Black Liberation.

Many of the womxn who weren’t recognized are also an integral part of contemporary activism, and I am honored to celebrate some of these womxn in my films.

Meeting Dana and Fredrika as they were about to embark upon the journey of making history was a blessing and I’m honored that they chose to share their story with me.

"For Love & Legacy" is A.K. Sandhu's directorial debut.
