Marking the seventh year of the war in Yemen, 7 x 7 // 7 Artists, 7 Years is a program of short films by seven Yemeni filmmakers, that collectively push back against binary portrayals of Yemenis as victims and/or villains, and instead provide an expansive view on how Yemenis present themselves, on their own terms.
The program starts on March 19th at 7pm EST with the live stream premiering two short experimental films by Yemeni-Bosnian-U.S. multi-media artist, Alia Ali (Conflict is More Profitable Than Peace and Mahjar) followed by a dialogue + Q&A with Alia, hosted by AANM Film Curator Dave Serio. Synopsis "Carrom"
The film takes place in the streets and alley of Taiz city, which has been subjected to armed, targeting by parties opposing the culture and nature of the city and its residents. We follow the film from the viewpoint of “Anas”, which faces difficulty in the exercise of aspects of freedom and democracy in the right concept; under the policy of repression deployed in Yemen, despite the liberation of Taiz “city” and other areas.
فيلم وثائقي قصير ( 10 دقائق ) ، تدور أحداثه في شوارع وحواري مدينة تعز ؛ و التي قد تعرضت للإستهداف المسلح من قبل الأطراف المعارضة لثقافة وطبيعة المدينة ومواطينيها . نتابع الفيلم من وجهة نظر ” أنس ” الذي يواجهة صعوبة في ممارسة أوجه الحرية و الديمقراطية بمفهومها الصحيح ؛ في ظل سياسة القمع المنتشرة في اليمن ، على الرغم من تحرير تعز ” المدينة ” و غيرها من المناطق .. يتناول الفيلم الصراع النفسي الذي يعيشه المواطن بسبب تدهورالأوضاع وعدم استجابة الجهات المسؤولة لندائاته المتكررة
About the filmmaker
Nashwan Sadeq is a director, editor, and photographer that lives in Taiz, Yemen. In 2017, he founded a company of media production. Nashwan is a lecturer for directing and editing courses at Taiz University. He made a number of documentary films showing how the war in Yemen people’s lives, focusing on the psychological damage as in his 2019 short film, “Carrom”. Currently, he is directing an animation short film adopting the call to stop the war. In addition, he is working on a screenplay for his first feature film.

والمونتاج في جامعة تعز. صنع العديد من الأفلام القصيرة التي تعرض تأثير الحرب على حياة الناس وتركز على الضرر النفسي الذي أحدثته الحرب، كما في فيلمه "كيرم" الذي أخرجه في العام 2019. حاليا يقوم بإخراج فيلم رسوم قصير يتبنى
الدعوة لإيقاف الحرب، ويعمل على سيناريو لأول أفلامه الطويلة.
