MEET THE FILMMAKER: KAYLA ABUDA GALANG

Island-born and California-raised, Kayla is a filmmaker in Austin, Texas, dreaming up stories rooted in nostalgia, girlhood, and romance. Her directorial works, Learning Tagalog With Kayla and Joan on the Phone, have been official selections at SXSW, and her editing works have been official selections at SXSW, Austin Film Festival, and Florida Film Festival. She's currently exploring Filipino girlhood in Southeast San Diego during the aughts through a narrative feature film titled '06-'07, and a proof-of-concept short titled Boulevard.
