MEET THE FILMMAKER: CLAUDIO CASALE

Born in 1986, after graduating in Economics, he moved to Asia and lived between India and Southeast Asia, where his passion for documentary began. Back in Rome, he gradually approached directing and made his first independent documentary, Piccolo Mondo Cane (2017). In the same year he attended a directing course at the New York Film Academy in New York city. In 2018 he made the short film ​My Tyson​, produced by Magda Film with the support of MiBACT and distributed by Zen Movie. My Tyson, presented during the 75th Venice International Film Festival, received the MigrArti best documentary award, was included in the five Nastri d’Argento Corto Doc and won many other awards in Italian and international festivals. In 2018 attended Terre di Cinema scholarship, where he made his first 35mm movie; after that, together with Viola Brancatella he founded ​Sibilla Film​, a production company dedicated to short films and documentaries. In 2019 he started the preparation of the web series “La linea meridiana”, produced by Sibilla Film with the support of MiBACT; then returned to India after eight years to shoot a 360 ° documentary and a traditional short film. In 2020, his documentary ​Om Devi: Sheroes Revolution is in official selection at the 77th Venice International Film Festival in the Venice VR Expanded section.
