Colorado’s North Fork Valley was home to three major coal mines. As the industry changed, the mines began to close, delivering a large blow to the local economy. In the past decade, the region has transformed itself into an agricultural hotbed, thriving on the heels of healthy living and unique food in a picture perfect natural setting, surrounded by national forests. In 2019, the Trump Administration announced plans to open 95% of public lands to fracking for oil and gas, threatening a new way of life and a growing post-extractive economy that looks decades to build.
