Armed with an endless supply of fruit snacks, plenty of extra underwear and a pile of old photographs, two parents set out to retrace the route of an old adventure, this time with a two-year-old in tow, hoping to inspire the next generation to care about wild places. Director BioBrian Lewis is a commercial and documentary filmmaker, adventurer junkie, unapologetic coffee snob, and happy dad based in Colorado Springs. He specializes in telling compelling stories and capturing beautiful images from the wilds of his Colorado backyard to the far corners of the globe.

MATAGI MĀLOHI : STRONG WINDS ﻿The Pacific Climate Warriors, born out of the low-lying Pacific Islands, are an indigenous and youth-led movement that have been on the front lines of climate change for decades—their rally cry is “we are not drowning, we are fighting.” In their own words "Matagi Mālohi tells the story of our journey to uplift our people and shape a narrative that paints us not as victims of the climate crisis but as the leaders, the healers, the nurturers, the artists, the gardeners, the growers, the seafarers and the navigators we are."

“We are not drowning, we are fighting,” is the rally cry of The Pacific Climate Warriors, an indigenous and youth-led movement that have been fighting climate change for decades.

CHASING GHOSTS In their quest to identify the pollinator of the ghost orchid for the first time, this team of conservation photographers, filmmakers, and scientists spent three summers standing waist-deep in alligator and snake-infested waters, swatting air blackened by mosquitoes, and climbing to sometimes nausea-inducing heights. They came away with an even deeper love for Florida's wildest wetlands—and with surprising discoveries that may help to conserve both the endangered orchid and its shrinking environment. Director BioERIC BENDICK is an Emmy-winning Storyteller, Director and Producer for Montana-based GRIZZLY CREEK FILMS. His work is motivated by an exploration of connectivity, conflict, intersection, and balance among the human and natural world.

JACOB'S LADDER The Machiguenga tribe of Peru prizes a rare plant known as toé for its ability to create intense, lucid dreams. Made entirely on location in the Amazon jungle under the guidance of Werner Herzog, JACOB'S LADDER invites you to cross over from the black and white waking world into this phantasmagorical realm. Director Bio"Born in Thunder Bay, Canada and raised on the Isle of Man, Rupert’s desire to creatively realise ideas and make emotional connections has taken him all over the world. In recent years he's documented shaman performances in Vietnam; done ride alongs with homicide detectives in Southern States; worked his way into secretive Amish communities; battled snow squalls in Orkney; and been down a waterslide with Jeff Goldblum. In 2018, he was selected to join Director Werner Herzog in a remote part of the Peruvian Amazon rainforest for a filmmaking expedition - under his guidance he directed, shot, and edited Jacob’s Ladder."

JACOB'S LADDER

VENTURE OUT is a story of overcoming odds, the power of resilience, and ultimately, the everlasting effects of LGBTQ community-building. The Venture Out Project, founded by Perry Cohen, is a nonprofit organization that brings LGBTQ folks together outdoors on wilderness trips. In sharing Perry’s story, and hearing from the other TVOP participants, we get a glimpse into the healing qualities of nature and lifesaving community bonds that are being forged as a result of Perry’s work. Director BioPalmer is an award-winning filmmaker rooted in activism who focuses on using the devices at hand in our visual and media culture that can drive our society to make change. His short films have been show around the world, winning both awards and high praise. A Swiss Army knife of knowledge and skills, you’ll often hear him planning his next shoot as often as you’ll find him on set holding a camera or sitting in the editing room. Interested in stories of humans, our planet, and the interactions of the two, Palmer often works with organizations, non-profits, and brands in honing in on their mission in a visual format. He currently lives in Oakland, California, and is the co-founder of Spruce Tone Films. Jamie is an activist, writer, and award winning filmmaker based in Brooklyn, New York. As a queer transgender man, Jamie has made storytelling the cornerstone of his queer and trans activist work. Jamie wrote, directed, and produced the short narrative film Spot, which was created with an entirely transgender cast playing non-transgender specific roles. Spot has screened in festivals around the country and was the winner of “Best Short Screenplay” at the 2017 Rahway International Film Festival. Jamie was recently featured in Huffington Post’s “10 Trans Filmmakers You Should Know.” Matt is a sound recordist, audio engineer, and documentary filmmaker. He has worked as an engineer, sound designer, director, and producer on several award winning documentaries that have screened around the world but has devoted most of his professional career to observing, recording, researching, and preserving natural soundscapes. Matt’s work was recently featured on NPR’s All Things Considered. He is the owner of Hayloft Audio and the co-founder of Spruce Tone Films. He currently travels around the country in his van recording sounds, taking photos, and telling stories along the way.
