Middle-aged factory worker Li Jianguo and his wife are laid off without compensation. Desperate to support their critically ill son, Li takes a job with Wang Zongcai, a former middle school classmate now working in construction. But not only does he not get paid, he ends up covering some of the project’s costs himself. Pushed to the brink, Li Jianguo teams up with his former apprentice, Haomin, to kidnap Wang’s daughter, Xiaomeng, in a desperate attempt to force Wang to repay him.
