In 1988, at the steelworks in Nowa Huta, the last strike in communist Poland was brutally quelled. This was a turning point. It became clear that the authoritarian system could not go on. What kind of freedom were the participants in those events fighting for? Thirty years later, Jagiellonian University students asked them this question. 

Young people were not only interested in the strike but the motives behind joining the opposition, the forms of resistance and everyday solidarity. Freedom was the goal. But it could not be reached without solidarity nurtured with determination throughout the difficult 1980s.
