When historians tell the story of the aftermath of the 2016 presidential elections, Resisterhood will be Exhibit A.&nbsp; Beginning at the 2017 Women’s March in Washington, DC, the film follows six diverse Americans as they fight for social justice on the streets and in the halls of power. Over the course of two years, we watch as they work to protect our rights and inspire others to join this peaceful and historic movement. Through their eyes, we experience the reality of Trump’s America. And through their actions, we witness the strength and courage of ordinary Americans during this extraordinary time. Augustus, a literate and escaped slave, masquerading as a free man in Massachusetts just prior to the Civil War, experiences nightmares of his son's death and a future America that resembles the struggles of his own time. Augustus soon realizes the horrors of slavery and racial inequality will only continue if he remains complicit. He’s left with one choice: Speak out or risk his freedom.

In 1988, at the steelworks in Nowa Huta, the last strike in communist Poland was brutally quelled. This was a turning point. It became clear that the authoritarian system could not go on. What kind of freedom were the participants in those events fighting for? Thirty years later, Jagiellonian University students asked them this question.&nbsp;&nbsp;Young people were not only interested in the strike but the motives behind joining the opposition, the forms of resistance and everyday solidarity. Freedom was the goal. But it could not be reached without solidarity nurtured with determination throughout the difficult 1980s.

Umbrella Dance for Hong Kong records modern dance master Mui Cheuk-yin's 1995 “Umbrella Dance” through today's lens. With the original dance produced during colonial times, what new meanings can Umbrella Dance create?&nbsp; Director Wong King Fai uses innovative film language that presents the visualizations of both dance film and documentary. In doing so, the film witnesses a significant span of Hong Kong history. Against the background of masks, roadblocks, tear gases, and snow, what new flavors do the movements and signs of Umbrella Dance impart? What does Hong Kong mean to the world culture in a chaotic time? What will the meaning of a community's existence remain after its voice is suppressed and its people are exiled? Without verbal expression, Umbrella Dance for Hong Kong returns to the purity of dance — movement and music — searching for relationships among time, history, community, art, and light — and toward a new possibility.

Based on the filmmaker’s childhood friend, Simone, who has Cerebral Palsy, the film follows the filmmaker’s journey in search for answers and the subsequent frustration at the lack of disability awareness while studying fashion at University. Same People features activists, icons, and educators and represents a call to arms about the power of clothing to change people’s lives.

SAME PEOPLE

The Time is Right for Us honors the achievements of Markus Huser, a young deaf man and advocate for self-advocacy for the deaf in Switzerland. As the most important initiator, he played a decisive role in its advancement during the 1980s. Huser's achievements included the provision of state funding for deaf organizations, enabling the deaf and hard-of-hearing community to stand up for their needs with greater confidence. At the height of his achievements, Huser became very ill, and despite this blow, he fought to the end for the self-determination of the deaf and hard-of-hearing.&nbsp; This documentary hopes to preserve his achievements for future generations. His actions shall not fade into oblivion.

Adam, a 20-something-year-old young man, feels his father is overbearing, while his mother tries to do her best to support her son through his dark moments. But the stress of not living up to his father's expectations and feeling like a failure overwhelms Adam and makes him feel more hopeless and depressed.
