Inspired by true events, The Audition highlights the rampant use of people of color subjected to portray stereotypes in both television and film and shows how many Latino actors are passed over as too ethnic or too “Latino” for a non-Hispanic character — as well as not being “brown” enough for explicitly Latino roles. The Audition hopes to bring awareness to the glaring lack of diversity in roles for Latinos and also inspire other Latinos to create their own content and tell their stories. The Audition

Exploitative mass data collection and surveillance are at the core of the tech industry’s business. Companies are enabling police departments to use racist facial recognition and other discriminatory technologies, facilitating ICE human rights abuses and normalizing a profit model rooted in widespread surveillance — with a disproportionate impact on BIPOC communities, including immigrants. No Safety with Surveillance aims to raise awareness surrounding the issues caused by mass surveillance in the digital age.&nbsp; Three key figures who work to stop the spread of surveillance capitalism also weigh in: Brandi Collins-Dexter, Senior Fellow, Color of Change; Alavaro Beoya, Founding Director of the Center on Privacy &amp; Technology at Georgetown Law; and Mary Beth Gallagher, Executive Director of Investor Advocates for Social Justice. Through the lens of their research and experience, they discuss the widespread damage and their work to stop it.&nbsp; No Safety with Surveillance hopes to encourage individuals and communities to stand up to this dangerous profit model. No Safety With Surveillance

On April, 17, 1993, the sporting landscape in Australia changed in one moment. Nicky Winmar a champion AFL player for St Kilda, had finally decided he’d had enough of the hatred and menacing racist taunts being hurled at him from a vicious crowd at Victoria Park in Melbourne. So he made a stand: Facing the opposition Collingwood crowd he pulled up his St Kilda guernsey, pointed to his chest and declared: ‘I’m black and I’m proud to be black’. To this day it remains one of Australia’s most iconic historic images. But what happened to Nicky after that? The Ripple Effect is an emotional and raw portrayal of the ongoing effects of racism, discrimination, and bullying on our mental health. The effects do not “end” in the moment. We are seeing tragic results daily as a result of poor mental health across the globe. The Ripple Effect educates and thoroughly explores what impact racism has on mental health —&nbsp;especially across the Indigenous community — by featuring high profile Australian athletes who tell their very own personal stories about the lasting effects that racism and bullying have had on their life. With raw honesty, advice, and practical assistance of ways to help combat discrimination, The Ripple Effect was made to help make real change across the world.

Circle of Eagles centers around the trauma left behind from Canadian residential schools — a network of mandated boarding schools created to isolate Indigenous children from their families and native culture in order to assimilate them into dominant culture. Indigenous brothers, elders, and parole officers share powerful stories of hope and healing from the legacy of these schools, foster care, and systemic racism. Circle of Eagles focuses on a unique halfway home that imparts Indigenous culture and ceremony to recover from this inflicted trauma — and those who are on the road to recovery from prison to community. Spear Avenue

Every night, Josue has a nightmare of a mysterious evil man threatening to kill him if he doesn’t — “go home.” Every day in the real world, he deals with racism and anti-immigrant sentiment from his schoolmates, teachers, and strangers. Josue escapes his nightmares and frustrations by drawing a comic featuring a young LatinX superhero who defeats an angry villain made of ice. To his cousin and best friend, Anita, Josue confides that in his dreams he has light powers that could fight back against the angry villain. If Josue could only stand up to him, he’s sure the nightmares would stop. But the next night, he’s still too afraid to fight back. Reparations explores the four-century struggle to seek repair and atonement for slavery in the United States.&nbsp; Black and Asian Americans reflect on the legacy of slavery, the inequities that persists, and the critical role that solidarity between communities has in acknowledging and addressing systemic racism in America. There is a cultural tide rising in Houston.
