Alma W. Thomas was a pioneering artist and educator who faced racial barriers throughout her life. Despite her achievements as the first African American woman to graduate from Howard University's Fine Arts program, mount a solo show at the Whitney Museum, and exhibit at the White House, she did not receive national attention until she was almost 80 years old. The documentary "Miss Alma Thomas" explores her remarkable life and features the voice of award-winning actress Alfre Woodard.
