The Mecca is a short film presented by The Village , a preservation of culture through photography and cinematography that aims to educate , preserve, contextualize and represent for the underserved and underrepresented community of Oak Cliff Texas. The premise of the work is to protect and present stories that aren't googleable or stories that aren't in the curriculum of our childrens school books. The Mecca is a film with a poetic tone written and performed by poet Black Ceaser and cinematography and directed by Don Tortellini. The 2022 South Oak Cliff Golden Bear became the first DISD football program to ever go back to back in football to win state. This school has gone through many different ordeals in the last few years before receiving funding. Like going to school in infestation, water leaks, caving in roofs, unbearable conditions that schools north of i35 don't have to endure. It wasn't until the bravery of the student body, diligent and dedicated alumni and community leaders stepped up to make a change for the better for the children of South Oak Cliff High. The Mecca is a way of saying thank you back to the community that supports this great school and team, the words and visuals pair with one another to tell a story of a community that finally has a level playing field. This film poetically and cinematically presents an ode to the accomplishment that was made possible by the community of Oak Cliff.
