DCEFF Director of Programming speaks with Tom Nastick about his films choices and his work as Manager of Public Programs at the National Archives. Tom Nastick is Manager of Public Programs for the Education and Public Programs staff at the National Archives in Washington, D.C.&nbsp;He joined the National Archives in 1985 as a Motion Picture Projectionist. He was later promoted to Audiovisual Specialist and in 2004, coinciding with the completion of the William G. McGowan Theater, assumed responsibility for public programs in DC.&nbsp;He continues to lead a team of public program producers in providing a regular schedule of panel discussions, film programs, author lectures, and performances.&nbsp;He has a degree in Communications and Cinema Studies from The American University in Washington, D.C.

Pare Lorentz’ monumental documentary about the exploitation and misuse of one of our greatest natural resources – the Mississippi River.

Produced for the 1939 New York World’s Fair, The City is a call to rebuild America’s cities as planned communities. Featuring a beautiful music score by Aaron Copland, and based on an original story outline by American documentary pioneer Pare Lorentz, The City describes the changeover from the American village of the early 1800s to the industrialized cities of 100 years later. It presents an alternative to the poor living conditions (especially for children) in the cities in the form of planned communities like that in Greenbelt, Maryland. Directed by Ralph Steiner and Willard Van Dyke. Produced by the American Institute of Planners.
