Twelve-year-old Asian American Bryan Chen wants to be a hero, so he tries to become the thing he knows all heroes need to be… White.
Director - Kyle Lau
WHITE NOW PLEASE is such a personal story to me. It came to me back in 2018 when I realized how powerful it was to finally see someone that looked like me on the biggest of stages. (Thanks, CRAZY RICH ASIANS).
After exploring this story, I realized how much I was conditioned growing up to believe only a certain way was “right.” I realized how much growing up as the one Asian kid on the basketball team, in my preschool, or at the grocery store shaped not only how others saw me but how I saw myself. Hopefully this film can help inspire others to accept their own selves/identities and proudly be the superhero they truly are!
