About the life of three Asian Female Theatre artists of international backgrounds who moved to NYC to pursue their dream to be on the Broadway stage.
Director - Yuko Kudo
We created “Dear Asian Girls” to give hope for API and Artist community during the Pandemic and the rise of Anti-Asian hate crime. Since Broadway went dark in 2020, artists have been struggling more than ever. Asian communities were targeted for just being who we are. There has been so much pain. And we need healing. I wanted healing.
"What would you do when you realize that the dream you've been following won't come true the way you envisioned?" Moving to a big city to follow the dream, going against society’s rules, feeling not enough and trying to fit in so that you can make it. You can relate to that story even if you are not Asian or an artist. Representation matters, because to me not seeing someone like me on stage was the norm. That must change now. I want the future generations of Asian Girls to be proud of who they are and their heritage.
Art is a language that speaks human. Through art we can connect and heal together. I hope this film can help us understand each other more and create a better future together.
