A brief exploration of a girl's relationship with her body and her mother in a short therapy intake.

The film started out as a conversation amongst friends about being out of body and the concept of not knowing what you really look like - so I made a doll to show just how small in this world I feel, but how many thoughts and emotions I had swirling in my body. I think it is a universal experience that children of immigrants go through when your parents reveal small slivers of information at very odd times that punch you in the gut. I wanted to see what my mom looked like outside of the confines of being my mother, and the very complex relationship between an immigrant mom who left everything in a different country and a young woman trying to break generational curses in the sphere of body image and self-worth. I used a mix of different medias and art forms in the treatment of this film to show just how hard it is to really encapsulate a lifetime of complexities with my body in the hour-long limit of therapy. I wanted derailment of depth with humor and how inescapable the power of a good therapist and a quiet space really is.
