Synopsis:

Birdie is a biracial girl raised by her mom in a NJ suburb. She spends a visitation day with her father, and debates inviting him back into her life as she prepares for her Bat Mitzvah and adulthood.

DJFF Film Review:

“I love this short about a girl on the precipice of her bat mitzvah, coming to terms with feeling stuck between both her Jewish and African American identities. There are tropes here that any American Jewish millennial can appreciate (the fake designer purses from the trunk of her dad’s friend’s car! The iconic temple suit!). I love the use of diegetic music with her dad’s funk records, juxtaposed with her rehearsed haftarah lines. One of my favorites of the year.”
