Screening in Short Film Package: Small Bites

Synopsis:

Jewish shtetl, Ukraine, 1941. A box with mother’s hairpins – the only thing left from his family – is Yasha’s last chance to escape German invaders and rescue his new friend, a wounded goat kid.

DJFF Film Review:

“Beautifully shot with great production and sound design, very evocative the ways dreams and memories would be.”

~ Diane Waldman: Member, DJFF Film Selection Committee

“A powerful and exquisitely made film. Fantastic production design, which adds great authenticity, and gorgeous cinematography, with striking framing/lighting and an aesthetic that allows certain colors (like the bright white of a goat or spilled milk; the red of blood or Yasha’s hair) to pop. A precocious boy [survives] the war by any means necessary in an almost epic-poem format.”

~ Amy Weiner Weiss: Member, DJFF Film Selection Committee & Director of Festivals, JCC Mizel Arts and Culture Center
