Note: “I’m Not Okay” is inspired by a personal story of mine, dealing with PTSD. It is about a girl, Emily, learning to come to terms with her trauma and co-existing with it even if it hinders her daily life. I was inspired by the short film “La Noria” as it deals with loss and learning to accept that loss to move forward. I felt a connection with the main character and I understood his ordeal. Just like Emily, I too, am facing the same struggles. I wanted to tell a story that would encourage others to seek help. As someone who understands the struggles, it is tough to seek help when you do not even acknowledge what is wrong. This film is a kind-of a nudge for not only others alike to accept their trauma but also myself to have the courage to face my wounds head-on and be okay. However, the journey of healing is not always a straight road, but acknowledgment is the first step to acceptance and recovery. I want to create more films that would inspire others to be a better person in life and tell impactful stories that others would see as a source of encouragement and inspiration.
