20 short films are selected for the festival’s annual competition programme for animated short films from the Nordic and Baltic region. The films compete for the Golden Gunnar for best Nordic-Baltic Animated Short, Best Children’s Film, the Grand Prix and the Audience Award. The Short Film programme holds ten shorts with great artistic effort, from Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Lithuania and Estonia. Films accepted into Fredrikstad Animation Festival’s Short Film Competition programme are eligible to be nominated for the European Animation Awards.

Eccentric inventor Jaan is about to fulfil his dreams of flying high in the sky when the spirit of Leonardo da Vinci, the Renaissance luminary, joins him in his aspirations. However, heading towards the horizon, where dreams and reality meet, as an elegant winged creature, is Jaan's neglected wife Liisa.

Riho Unt (b. 1956) is an acclaimed screenwriter, director and lecturer from Estonia. He has been working as a director and artist in the film studio Nukufilm, and as an associate professor in the scenography department of the Estonian Academy of Arts for many years. His puppet films have won numerous international awards.
