“Watching Walter” and “The Woman from Hamburg” offer true accounts of occupied Poland in the 1940s; the first is a personal portrayal of triumph over tragedy and the second is a female-focused portrait of grief and intergenerational trauma. “The Well” showcases a rare and important tale of Sephardic Jewish survivors from Veria, Northern Greece - one of the many forgotten stories of the genocide. Watching Walter is a short biopic—and a proof of concept for a feature film—starring Stephen Tobolowsky. Set between 1995 Philadelphia and Nazi-occupied Poland during World War II, it tells the true story of Władysław "Walter" Wojnas, a Holocaust survivor who rebuilt his life as a watchmaker in America. Through intimate, slice-of-life moments, the film explores the quiet resilience, loss, and hope that shaped Walter’s journey across two continents and generations.
