“Watching Walter” and “The Woman from Hamburg” offer true accounts of occupied Poland in the 1940s; the first is a personal portrayal of triumph over tragedy and the second is a female-focused portrait of grief and intergenerational trauma. “The Well” showcases a rare and important tale of Sephardic Jewish survivors from Veria, Northern Greece - one of the many forgotten stories of the genocide. Also includes the Murray Galinson San Diego-Israel Initiative (MGSDII) Emerging Israeli Filmmaker Artist in Residence short films: Roma and The Sixth Campfire.

During Passover of 1943, over one hundred Jews fled Veria, a city in Nazi-occupied Northern Greece, to escape looming deportation. Some found refuge in remote mountain villages, while others braved the wilderness, struggling to survive until the war’s end.
