Young Brett's perfect plan to surprise his Father for his birthday is thrown into jeopardy as his Dad hijacks the agenda by corralling his son to the local Johannesburg betting bar with the promise of resuming the day’s festivities as soon as possible. Inside the bar, tensions rise as Brett realizes his Father’s scheme after he is tasked with making a seemingly harmless horse racing bet on his Dad's behalf. Desperate to save his Father's birthday surprise, Brett accepts the responsibility only to unwittingly unleash a sea of chaos that enmeshes him in his Dad's debts and crooked dealings as he starts to unravel the man he thinks his father is.


Director's Bio:

Jason Adam Maselle is a filmmaker from Johannesburg, South Africa currently based in NYC. His work is driven by his passion to share morally complex and character rich South African stories, while also pursuing universal themes such as unrequited love, grief and the special feeling you get in your chest when something takes your breath away. Jason received his MFA in filmmaking from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. His latest film 'PUNTER' is executive produced by Spike Lee. The film won First Prize at NYU’s First Run Film Competition. The film is a top 3 finalist for a Student BAFTA. He misses going to the movies with his dad.
