Director Statement
As a filmmaker hailing from Los Angeles's Korea Town, my journey, shaped by post-L.A. riots cultural shifts, has led me from aspiring actor to forming a hip-hop group and serving in the military. Influenced by classic TV narratives, I am drawn to stories that prompt reflection. My work reflects a commitment to authentic storytelling and showcasing untold perspectives. Each project, whether crime drama, comedy, or contemporary exploration, contributes to my evolution as a filmmaker. Rooted in personal convictions, my journey embraces challenges on my terms, aiming to authentically portray diverse voices and contribute to a broader understanding of the world.
Director - Al Chang
I'm Al Chang—a writer, director, and editor pursuing an MFA with an Editing emphasis at Chapman University. After a decade in the military, I jumped into filmmaking in 2021, using my military benefits. Juggling full-time studies with my wife and four kids keeps life dynamic. While I'm primarily an editor, I love the challenges of writing and directing, exploring genres from crime drama to comedy. Currently, I'm crafting a psychological drama for my next project. Resourcefulness and a strong support system drive me to make shorts that are creatively fulfilling and budget-friendly. With three films done and a fourth in the works, I'm all about pushing boundaries in the filmmaking world. Let's see where this journey takes us!
