The music video and short film celebrates the culture and memory of the indigenous Kalinago people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the tribe from which I derived. I chose to pay homage to their struggle in Yurumein and the tale of survival and resistance that kept our island from colonial exploitation for decades. Though they were banished from their sweet Yurumein and suffered an atrocious genocide, there is a resurgence of a strong and resilient Garifuna people throughout the world. We celebrate their strength, fighter spirit and resilience.

Dir. statement// It was an honor to capture a representation of the culture and life of the Kalinago people. This is important as we try to recapture the lost culture of our indigenous people and archive it on film to promote national pride and preserve it for the next generation.
