As Covid-19 ravages the US, a gay man contemplates returning to his family in China. In Japan, a transgender man must choose between city life with his girlfriend or remaining in the community in which he grew up. In Berlin a gender fluid youngster bonds with their Vietnamese grandmother and the traditions of their ancestors. The title of this programme is a line from the last of these films, Jackfruit, but it’s a theme present in all three stories from East Asia and the diaspora communities of the west.

This highly personal documentary captures moments in the life of Chinese-American filmmaker Will Zang, at the height of the pandemic. With jobs thin on the ground and the (former) president calling Covid-19 the “China Virus”, he contemplates leaving his life in the US and returning to his family.

Mae'r rhaglen ddogfen hynod bersonol hon yn cyfleu eiliadau ym mywyd y gwneuthurwr ffilm Tsieineaidd-Americanaidd Will Zang, ar anterth y pandemig. Gyda swyddi’n denau ar lawr gwlad a’r (cyn) arlywydd yn galw Covid-19 yn “Feirws Tseina”, mae’n ystyried gadael ei fywyd yn yr UDA a dychwelyd at ei deulu.
