Curlews & Cows
Curlews nest in grasslands, one of the fastest-vanishing habitats in the West. Researchers use satellite telemetry to track curlews as they migrate to understand how ranching helps maintain migrating and nesting habitats.
Eye of the Hornbill

Saving The Bone-swallower
In northeast India, the Greater Adjutant stork, once considered a pest, now scavenges to survive on a landfill site. With fewer than 2000 birds remaining, 'Saving the Bone-swallower' follows conservationist Purnima Devi Barman and rural women as they rescue two orphaned stork chicks and prepare them for life in the wild. The documentary celebrates community-based conservation and the bond between humans and nature.
Looking Up
'Looking Up' is a down-to-earth exploration of personal struggles, resilience, and the unexpected healing that can come from a pair of binoculars and fresh air.
Café Y Aves
Coffee farms in Colombia exist in some of the planet's most biodiverse ecosystems. However, agriculture is putting pressure on biodiversity, causing catastrophic declines in migratory bird species. Farmers are working alongside Smithsonian scientists to devise solutions that will benefit both birds and coffee.
Wings of the Oder
Growing up near the Oder in Poland, Piotr Chara spent most of his childhood in and around the river and shores. Later, Piotr noticed a decline in the river and its inhabitants. Climate change and unintended consequences had negatively impacted the once thriving shores - specifically the wildlife. Wetland birds – terns and oystercatchers – were decreasing in numbers due to difficulty nesting. Their habitats were compromised, making them easy prey for predators. Deeply affected by seeing the birds unable to make nests, Piotr researched solutions and started an organization that builds floating nests for the birds. Also an award winning photographer, Piotr films the birds as part of his studies and reports his findings to The Foundation of the Green Valley of the Oder and Warta.

This session effectively showcases bird conservation and rescue stories, demonstrating how connecting with these creatures can significantly enhance our well-being.
