Beni' is the pigment of Safflowers which came to Japan across the sea, in the distant past. Lips with beni are somehow beautifully translucent. Beni that is refined with alkali, acid and ramie's fiber, glitters with a green colour after drying. The technique to extract high quality beni has been handed down in secrecy since ancient times. This film was produced as graduation study at the Faculty of Arts of the Tokyo Polytechnic University, and was shot on 35mm film in order to correctly record beni's special colours during fluorescent colour-development.
