Mei, a Japanese Canadian teenage girl, lives with her single father Tatsuya. Mei just found out that her trip to Japan which she long- awaited for has been cancelled due to Tatsuya’s work. Although Mei is upset at her father for breaking his promise of taking her to Japan, she is mature enough to understand her father's situation and work responsibilities. Consequently, she tries not to voice her complaints directly, but her disappointment still shows through her changed behaviors toward her father. However, a traditional Japanese custom, Okuribi, gives Mei an opportunity to reflect on her actions and reconcile with her father.
