Animation, live-action, and documentary shorts about tech-savvy inner and outer space exploring kids.
Is it okay to bend the rules a little to help the one you love? How long can you keep a secret that will destroy everything? Inspired by one of Norway's most famous plays, Followers takes us into some of the issues that children of today are facing.
Juror comments: The short Norwegian film Followers is very relatable to current times and teaches a good lesson. The film is short, sweet, and to the point. It keeps you locked in the entire time.
Social media has infiltrated our lives globally. This film explores a group of young kids who discuss the pros and cons of social media, such as buying followers and appearing in each other’s videos. It gives the audience an inside look into the lives of young people and, in the end, teaches a great lesson.
I really enjoyed the overall storyline. I like that it is very specific and gets to the point. The camera work is very impressive, as is the audio. The costumes and locations suit the storyline. The cast members are all terrific. They speak clearly and give very believable performances. Their problems as young people are not dissimilar to those of adults. The main character Nora (Erle Watto Halvorson) has major character development and really grows throughout the film. The character Helmer (Simon Pettersen) learns a lot by the end; he seems to be on his way to eventually becoming a better person. I learned more about social media and how it can affect someone.
The message is to never forget who you are and what you deserve.
I give Followers 3.5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 10 to 14, plus adults. The dialogue is in Norwegian with English subtitles. By Mikella G., KIDS FIRST!
