Frank, a career obsessed yuppie, has never seen eye to eye with Chang, his perpetually fresh-off-the-boat father. But when a broken toenail sends his father to the hospital on the eve of his big promotion, Frank comes to learn what is truly important.

This film was a finalist for the 2017 HBO APA Visionaries Short Film Competition, and premiered at the 2017 Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival.

Jingyi Shao

Jingyi Shao is an LA based writer and director. He’s a first generation immigrant who's spent equal parts of his life in New York, Los Angeles, and Shanghai. An accomplished commercial director for international brands, Jing has recently delved more into narrative, serving as a staff writer on BET’s BOOMERANG, exec produced by Lena Waithe, as well as producing his own content, such as his short TOENAIL, which was a finalist for the HBO APA Visionaries competition. He currently has multiple TV and film projects in development, selling culinary hustle dramedy SALVAGE at HBO and setting up his first feature as writer/director, CHANG CAN DUNK, with Lena Waithe’s companies Hillman Grad and Makeready.
