A father created the first automatic machine gun, abandoning his family forever to chase glory. His son invented the gun silencer, shot reams of 16 mm footage, and wanted to change his name.

The Flamingo

The Flamingo follows a woman in her late '60s as she pursues sexual exploration, intimate relationships and aging with pleasure.

Ghetto Children

In the 1990s and early 2000s, New Orleans was the epicenter of Southern rap, thanks to influential artists Juvenile, B.G., and Soulja Slim. While Juvenile maintains a thriving career, the other two faced tragic outcomes. Their sons—Young Juve, T.Y., and Lil’ Soulja Slim—met as teenagers and, inspired by their shared legacies, formed the group Ghetto Children, named after a Juvenile song. This documentary is an intimate portrait of Black boyhood transforming into manhood, shaped by their fathers' legacies.

Helen and the Bear

A rebellious young woman marries a prominent Republican politician twenty-six years older than her. Four decades later, as they anticipate his death, she wrestles with their marriage, her sexuality, and what’s been lost and won through a life by his side.

I Love You, AllWays

The AllWays Lounge is the queer and dear home for all things drag, burlesque, and cabaret in New Orleans. The lounge's owner and its colorful cast of performers show their resolve and creativity in keeping their home bar from closing forever amid economic hardships of 2021.

The In Between

Following her brother’s death, filmmaker Robie Flores returns home to the Texas-Mexico border. Dancing playfully between personal and collective coming-of-age experiences, Robie rediscovers the possibilities of joy in the aftermath of grief, while offering a nuanced and unexpected portrait of the border.

A King Like Me

A King Like Me follows members of the Zulu Club, New Orleans’ first Black Mardi Gras krewe, as they work to bring the Zulu parade back to the streets for Mardi Gras Day 2022, in the face of a global pandemic, hurricane Ida and the loss of members due to COVID and gun violence.

College students confront sexual violence on their campus through a transformative theater process. This urgent coming of age story follows young people grappling with sex, consent, identity, and power on their paths to adulthood.

Animated Shorts: In Living Color

Nothing is ever black and white in these films. These animated shorts challenge what may usually conform them. The essence of individuality brings these characters to life in their own journeys to listen to their desires and to define who they are or who they will be. 

Comedy Shorts: Schticks & Giggles

Each of these shorts uses their humor to tap into the humane aspects of everyday life. This series features dramatized scenarios to explore a mix of modern-day 1st world and interpersonal problems, ranging from the death of a best friend, to the annoying beep of a smoke detector, to struggling to get a bigger butt. 

Experimental Shorts: Ineffable

This experimental shorts block explores pockets of joy in the mundane, reflecting on collective consciousness and the choices that shape us. Utilizing techniques that range from archival Super 8 footage to hand-drawn biodegradable ink and paper animation and everything in between, this collection affirms that not all things need defining. 

Louisiana Comedy Shorts: Beignet

Beignet, done that! Bad joke, good block! These New Orleans–made narrative short films offer some levity and laughs, showcasing some of the impressive filmmaking talent here in Louisiana. 

Louisiana Shorts: Dark Roux

This gripping collection of narrative short films molds familiar themes of kinship, love ties, and identity into dark and unexpected forms. Crafted by Louisiana filmmakers, these harrowing and unforgettable stories confront the monstrous and urge us to look deeper at the illusions we keep hidden in shadow.

Louisiana Shorts: Gumbo

This block of shorts serves a hearty range of feeling from chilling to ludicrous where Louisiana’s familiar landscapes - swamps, diners, and places of worship - become arenas for self-exploration. Characters of past and present go on narrative odysseys of spiritual, mythical, and personal discovery without ever leaving home.

Narrative Shorts: New Moons

Shedding and renewal anchor these six shorts, in which characters both look back and project forward to (re)examine lost places and new phases. Drawn at times closer together and others further apart, these films allow their characters to bristle against other selves and temporalities: crafting new worlds and leaving others behind. 

Narrative Shorts: Penumbra

Betwixt and between; questions and shadows … a sense of the strange permeates this collection. These films in turn touch on elements of the supernatural, the mythic, and the apocalyptic in their evocation of new, melancholic genre spaces where histories are drawn and tested, and futures are never guaranteed. 

Narrative Shorts: Unhinged

Bitterly sweet, tactile, sticky: these six films test both realities and sensibilities. Audiences will travel from the witch-laden streets of New Rio, to genre-bending stories of those trapped in surreal televisual landscapes. If a touch of terror mixed with the comedic grotesque tickles your fancy, look no further than these unhinged gems. 

Narrative Shorts: Worlds Apart

Our daily interactions with family and strangers range from lowkey to combative, banal to poignant. These films take a magnifying glass to the fraughtest of these junctures, those which expose culture clashes and class divisions. In igniting these moments, they reveal how those in our closest physical proximities are often the furthest away.

Shorts: Good Grief

Where is the good in grieving? Speaking to the magic within the heartbreak, this collection of narrative shorts traverses the depths of grief through its peaks and valleys, from the early days to the years after- yet leaving the viewer with a sense of solace.  

Shorts: Spectral Gaze

Going beyond the tired and over-told stories of coming out, these poignant films address paint a fuller portrait of queer life. From the highs of a first crush and falling in love, to the despair of feeling alone with no one to talk to, these shorts are relatable to everyone.

Boca Chica

At twelve years old, Desi spends her days dreaming on the beaches of Boca Chica of becoming a famous singer, but her goal is threatened by the insidious future that awaits some of the girls in her town. A future that is perpetuated by some of those closest to her. Only her music can save her.

Color Book

Following the passing of his wife, a devoted father learns to raise his son with Down syndrome as a single parent. While adjusting to their new reality, the two embark on a journey through Metro Atlanta to attend their first baseball game.

Eastern Western

Igor, a recent immigrant and widower, struggles to raise his two-year-old son somewhere in the mountains of the American Frontier. When an acquaintance offers Igor the chance to travel further West for better opportunities, the family’s journey begins. There, they encounter both friend and foe, as well as decisions that will affect the family’s future forever.

Inky Pinky Ponky

When a young trans woman falls in love with the captain the rugby team at St Valentine’s Highschool, she must navigate her way through a world of intolerance and bigotry to find happiness, in an unexpected place.

The Motherload

Conflict among a mother-daughter duo arises when Jessica embarks on a quest to find a home that once belonged to her mother’s family during pre-war Vietnam.

Mysterious Behaviors + the bench

A naïve, shapeshifting extraterrestrial embeds herself on campus to research the mysterious behaviors of Earthling college students. Through her mistakes and misadventures, twisted relationships and a tortuous romance, she learns that humans aren’t as primitive as she at first believed.

Two closeted teens move to Amsterdam, seeking identity and belonging.

Removal of the Eye

New parents Ram and Kallia are at their wits' end with their sleepless baby, along with Kallia's ailing mother, Katerina, who lives downstairs. Convinced that the family's misfortunes have been caused by the evil eye, Katerina insists on performing an ancient exorcism to save the family.

Rowdy Friends

Residents of a North Carolina halfway house take matters into their own hands when a roommate suspiciously disappears. Led by a cast of first-time actors, recovering addicts and ex-cons, this blend of fact, fiction and genre offers an unhinged look at life on the American margins.

Shame

Two friends are kidnapped from a bus along with other passengers and experience horror. One manages to escape, but will have to carry the secret of what happened.

Tendaberry

When her boyfriend Yuri goes back to Ukraine to be with his ailing father, twenty-three year-old Dakota navigates her precarious new life, surviving on her own in New York City. When Yuri goes missing, Dakota discovers that she is pregnant and must make a decision between holding on to the past and forging her own future in the midst of her South Brooklyn universe.
