As Los Angeles Chinatown‚Äôs Phoenix Bakery celebrates its 80th anniversary, three multicultural generations of the Chan family explore their legacy and contemplate the bakery's future in the community.

Phoenix Bakery: Sweets for the Sweet

When Jayden finds out that his conservative mother is coming from China to stay with him over the weekend, he persuades his live-in girlfriend Sophie to move out temporarily so as not to upset his mother. However, when Sophie learns that Jayden’s mom has plans to set her son up on a blind date with a Chinese girl, she is determined to not let this doesn’t happen ﻿Logline: A short film about interracial dating of love, loyalty, friendship and family.

Dim Sum Dating

Trapped during the LA riots in a small medical clinic, a Korean American nurse struggles with her feelings toward a wounded black man knowing he is somehow involved in the burning down of her father’s donut shop and his disappearance. With time running out, she must decide whether to risk her own life to save his. ﻿Logline: A nurse struggles with her feelings to save a man with a gunshot wound, suspecting he may be responsible for the disappearance of her father.

Butterfly

ERIN (mid-20s) enters THE WAITING ROOM. This is a space outside of time and reality, but also just looks like an office’s waiting room. In this space Erin and others are given smart phones that allow them to observe themselves as they continue living in the real world, as if they are flies on the wall and watching their own lives from the outside. Not long after Erin arrives, she runs into an old friend, DREW (mid-20s). They catchup, but it soon becomes clear that Drew is resentful of how their friendship ended many years ago. Erin is surprised, unaware that their friendship had ended at all. They argue about how their friendship ended, and Erin realizes that she’s lost a dear friend. If she wants to get him back she’ll have to change. In the end she makes a phone call to Drew leaves a voicemail where she apologizes for being absent from his life. She hopes that he’ll call her back. ﻿Logline:&nbsp;A woman runs into an old friend in the Waiting Room and realizes that their once close friendship is already over. In order to save their relationship, she must confront her own apathy or lose him forever.
