Two young women sit on the kitchen floor and share, as they navigate their individual experiences of depression, supporting each other in the ways they know how. SAD GIRLS CLUB explores the quiet and intimate moments between two friends, and how sharing their feelings can provide a safe space for ease and healing. SAD GIRLS CLUB explores the quiet and intimate moments between two friends facing different waves of sadness. This movie screens as part of Black Femme Film Fest: Access 2 Power.

When a young Black girl is harassed, shamed and threatened with violence by men in her community, a group of women organizers decide to do something about it. The result is a speak-out against street harassment and rape culture in the same place where the initial incident took place. Triggered documents that event. Event organizers hoped that women from the neighborhood, being all too familiar with street harassment, would be able to speak about their experiences, validate each other and come together to demand change. It starts out that way but ultimately, the forces in play that keep rape culture firmly entrenched in low-income, African-American communities, overwhelm everyone’s best efforts. This movie screens as part of Black Femme Film Fest: Access 2 Power.
