Ice Ball - Best Documentary Short: PDXFF 2020

Legendary polar explorer Will Steger, moved to the Minnesotan wilderness at age 25. Reliant on sustainable energy, the lost art of cutting ice became the means for refrigeration, ultimately building a community around the experience. This annual harvest formed a tradition spanning fifty years that became known as the “Ice Ball”.

In a celebration of human innovation and interconnection, Ice Ball embodies one man’s attempt to move society forward, without leaving the past behind.
