Piñata's story begins as a local man receives the news that he will no longer have a job on Monday --- the last thing that brought his life any purpose. After apathetically crashing a nearby birthday party, he makes an accidental discovery: the destruction of a piñata triggers a euphoric, explosive reaction in his mind. He's alive again.

The film explores themes of loss --- and the power of nostalgia to bring back memories of better times through the most unexpected of objects or activities.
