During the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, Seattle Dance Collective commissioned five new works for their project, Continuum: Bridging the Distance. "The Only Thing You See Now" by SeaPertls is an intimate duet filmed in the early morning hours on a dock along the Seattle waterfront. Dancers Miles Pertl and Leah Terada create a moving tableau, seeking balance on unsteady ground, accompanied by musician Jason Webley perched high atop a wooden piling. Staying afloat, making waves.

In March of 2020, the pandemic lockdown forced Seattle Dance Collective to cancel live performances for our summer season and filming dance quickly became our necessary creative outlet. We suddenly found ourselves plunged into the unfamiliar world of film production, creating five new works for the screen, including “The Only Thing You See Now”, for a program entitled, Continuum: Bridging the Distance. Working with Northwest musician and composer Jason Webley, the collaborators for this film were made up of additional artists exploring this medium for the first time, including brother and sister choreographic duo SeaPertls. The Only Thing You See Now was created following strict COVID-19 protocols, with social distancing and masking measures in place. The dancers were living together, allowing them to rehearse and perform with each other in close proximity.
