For dancers and choreographers, whose passion and livelihood are centered on live performance, the global pandemic has severely impacted our ability to create and share art. Yet out of great disruption lies opportunity. “THE SPACE BETWEEN US: Creating dance during a pandemic lockdown” seeks to capture the innovation and determination demonstrated by the artists of Seattle Dance Collective, as they forged a new and unfamiliar path to performance through the medium of film.

    When forced to cancel live performances for our 2020 summer season, filming dance quickly became our necessary creative outlet and we suddenly found ourselves plunged into the unfamiliar world of film production. Our collaborators were made up of additional seasoned dance artists working in this medium for the first time, including new director and editor Bruno Roque.
