Ayo, a non-binary teenager, clashes with their mother, Rose, over joining the Legacy League, an elite organization for high school girls. Rose dreams of giving Ayo all the opportunities she didn’t have as a child. However, Ayo wants nothing to do with the Legacy League’s dress code or rigid gender norms.


Ayo would rather spend weekends at their sewing machine, designing wrestling costumes for their favorite performers. Instead, they’re trapped in etiquette classes with the “who’s who” of Detroit. The tension rises at high tea, where Ayo is misgendered by the Legacy League’s chapter president. Ayo feels deeply neglected by their mom, while Rose struggles to understand why Ayo refuses such a prestigious opportunity. Determined to pursue their wrestling dreams, Ayo challenges their membership in the Legacy League and their relationship with their mother.
